Vettings / Pre Purchase Examinations

We are pleased to vet horses prior to purchase for clients and those who are not existing customers of the practice.

John Dunsford MRCVS has over twenty five years’ experience in pre-purchase examinations, which are always thorough, but also independent, realistic, and well-reasoned in their advice.

We offer five-stage examinations only for the purchase of horses as the two-stage insurance examination, which does not include seeing the horse exercised, is in our experience inadequate and not in the client’s best interest.

Our vetting price is all-in and includes taking a blood sample and travelling, unless the examination is well out of area in which case we will add some additional mileage. Please check with the practice for costs.

Pre-purchase examinations need the use of a darkened stable to look at the horse’s eyes, a flat, level yard or a quiet road for trot-ups, and a good surface or school for ridden exercise. Alternatively, we can examine horses at our clinic using our own school.
